Q & A > The First 8 Days of Being a Mom > How long does the Kraamwijzer (Dutch original of The first 8 days of being a mom) exist in the Netherlands?
The Kraamwijzer was made for the first time about 15 years ago. Developed by the Dutch healthcare group that was responsible for strategies in maternity care at that time. They experienced that the maternity nurses where using separate report sheets for, for example, feeding times, temperature lists for mom and baby, information about care and night care, delivery report etc. It was badly arranged and disorderly. Reason to get together and develop one guide for educational use and as a central report book for the parents and all healthcare professionals involved in the maternity care.
An editorial team developed the first version consisting of a maternity nurse, children’s nurse working in the hospital, lactation specialist, midwife and pediatrician. Each year the editorial team checks and where necessary updates the text.
The Kraamwijzer is distributed through the healthcare organizations that provide the specialized nurse at home for the first 8 days.
